Greetings of Peace. Hello! Welcome to my profile. My name is Thamina Anwar. I am also known as Samina which is my birthname given by my late father. I currently live in Auckland, New Zealand with my 2 young children.
Lets rewind back to a few year. I was born in Bangladesh to 2 medical doctors (physicians). I moved to Malaysia when I was 3 years old and then followed my family to Brunei Darussalam when I was 7 years old. My parents were very busy with their careers as medical doctors, serving the Malaysian and Brunei governments. So I had to grow up very fast and learn on the life’s ups and downs at a very young age. Life was not always easy as a child. As the eldest child, I had so many responsibilities and things were even harder as I used to “think too much”. I did not have many friends during my childhood. I was very shy and too conscious of other people’s opinions although I was very vocal among people I was familiar with. I used to hate to study when I was a child.
Having said all that, my late father was my mentor. Although he was extremely busy, with his charismatic characteristics, he taught me humanity, love, to speak out, debate, to be a life long learner, to love books, to cook, to clean, ……
Life become tougher during my teenage days. When I was 15 years old, I had to leave home. I was flown to a strange country to get educated- to the UK. It was really a shock for me as I was placed at a private boarding school. Coming from a tiny country call Brunei to a big city call London and being a teenager, I could not settle for years. But the love of my father kept me going and I knew I could not let him down.
